Gardening Tips

When you want to start a garden, you would need some guidance. I am sharing some gardening tips with you, which have worked for me wonderfully. The local nursery is a great source for help and guidance regarding your gardening. There is of course the internet, gardening clubs, books and magazines on the subject. You need to know how much sunlight your garden would get, tips on using fertilizers, mulch and type of soil. Also the tools necessary will have to be decided including what kind of tiller you need plus the type of watering system.

Tip #1: There is nothing as great as writing down the entire gardening plan on a piece of paper. It also helps you save time. You need to brainstorm with a friend if you so desire. Keeping the plan in front of you helps. The important points to consider is how the garden would look, how far is the hose and sprinklers, etc. There could be other points of consideration also.

Tip #2: The way you have prepared your soil can decide whether you succeed in your gardening efforts. Different types of plants prefer different types of soil so make sure you take that into consideration. If your garden is planned to be vegetarian or herbal, make sure to use only organic fertilizers if you want the natural flavor of the food to remain. Instead of using ordinary fertilizer, try using any good compost or even wooden chip mulch.
If you think that having a compost heap at your backyard is a near-impossible idea, think again. Its valuable returns are incredible. Fresh home brew compost is an excellent source of nutrients for your vegetarian or herb garden but sometimes it's totally unrealistic. Though mulch is a good alternative to home compost mixture, ensure that you use redwood or pine as it breaks faster. Whether you use mulch or compost or fertilizer make sure to mix it all up very thoroughly.

Tip #3: When the soil is ready, do not plant the seedlings immediately. Instead lay the plants on top of the soil to check once and for all how your garden would ultimately look like. I firmly believe it is wise to plant plants together that have similar characteristics. For instance, plants with larger radii should be clubbed together. All tall plants at the back and shorter plants in the front make a lot of sense.

Gardening Tip #4: Remember to water your garden. this is critical. If your house is very big, then watering a garden can be very hard work. Use an automatic watering system, if you want your garden to grow on its own. An automatic system can range from a large sprinkler to a timer attached to a hose sprinkler. One of the most rewarding hobbies, a garden provides you with beauty, shade and sometimes food also!
